Forward looking sonar allows powerboaters and sailors to to see what is ahead of the vessel. For Simrad and B&G users, this is made simple with the ForwardScan Transducer. A simple plug/play connection connects select Simrad and B&G systems to the 180kHz transducer, which generates a two-dimensional image of the water ahead of the boat. The unique Bottom Colouring and Auto Scaling keeps the image simple and easy to read.
The sonar can see forward 8x the depth of the water under the boat (with nominal 4-5x), giving users plenty of time to adjust course to avoid shallow water. As an added safety feature, there is a shallow water alarm, and colour specific chart overlay to quickly alert skippers to any unexpected change of depth.
For skippers using other echosounders, the 180kHz frequency of the forward looking sonar stays clear of traditional (200kHz) and AIRMAR speed/depth/temp (235kHz) frequencies, allowing users to run multiple echosounders at once.
The ForwardScan transducer is supplied with a 2″ (50mm) stainless steel, through-hull fitting. This sleeve allows the transducer element to be removed even with the boat afloat.
The ForwardScan transducer is plug and play capable with the following displays.
B&G
- Zeus 3
- Vulcan FS

- NSS evo3
- NSS evo2
- Go XSR
- Go XSE
The Simrad & B&G Sonarhub allows users with the following displays to use the ForwardScan transducer;
